Story of Ugg Boots

“Ugg Boots” are sheepskin boots, made of twin-faced sheepskin with fleece on the inside and with a tanned outer surface, often with a synthetic sole. Ugg boots are believed to have been first developed in Australia or New Zealand for nearly 200 years. They were originally called “ug boots” or “ugh boots”, which is short for “ugly”. Traditionally, the term “ugg boot” referred to a style of Australian boot made with sheepskin. During World War I, pilots wore a fleece-lined “FUG” (flying ugg) boot, and a type of ugg boot was also worn in Australia as early as the 1930s by farmers wanting to keep their feet warm. In the 1960s Australian surfers would put on ugg boots to warm their feet after coming in from riding the waves, and people in Australia would often wear ugg boots around the house during the mild winters.
While several Australian companies still manufacture these boots, “UGG” is also a trademark of the boots manufactured by a U.S. company, UGG® Australia. In the United States, when people refer to “UGG boots,” they’re usually talking about the boots made by Deckers Outdoor Corporation, the parent company of UGG® Australia. Beginning in 1979, UGG® Australia gained brand recognition in the U.S. for sheepskin boots and slippers and was later adopted as a favored brand by the California surf community. They acquired the brand in 1995 and expanded the collection, offering consumers a luxurious and distinctive look in sheepskin fabrications. Deckers has the unique original factory in China, so Deckers UGG Australia boots are made in China.
Natural properties of the sheepskin leather are used in the vast majority of the sheepskin boots, which results in thermostatic benefits. Thick fleece fibres on the inner part of the boots allow air to circulate during summer so your feet don’t become excessively warm. Warm in winter, cool in summer, that’s the beauty of authentic ugg boots!
